Manchester City have four stars whose individual market values are worth more than the entire FC Copenhagen squad.
Tuesday’s UEFA Champions League round of 16 fixture is a real David vs Goliath clash; both on and off the pitch. The Cityzens resources compared to their opponents is certainly vast and enviable.
City have been the most dominant side in English football over the last ten years. Last season, they finally conquered Europe’s elite club competition after several near-misses.
At the other end of the spectrum, Copenhagen have never reached the quarter-finals of the Champions League. However, they are one of Denmark’s most successful club sides.
The Lions have tasted famous victories against City’s rivals, Manchester United. A 1-0 Champions League win in 2006 was matched with a 4-3 victory in the same competition earlier this season.
FC Copenhagen Squad Value
According to Transfermarkt.com, FC Copenhagen’s entire squad value is listed at £71.9m. Their most valuable player is in fact Nottingham Forest loanee Scott McKenna at £8.5m.
Excluding loan players, teenage sensation Roony Bardghji takes the honours. The 18-year-old winger is valued at £7.6m.
Bardghji has already made his mark in the UEFA Champions League this season. He scored the winning goal against Manchester United in the group stages.
If the Swede shines in both legs against Manchester City, it wouldn’t be a surprise to see some of Europe’s top clubs make their move for the highly-rated star.
To give you another angle of how far Copenhagen are behind Man City in terms of finances, their record signing Kamil Grabara cost just £5.2m.
Manchester City’s Record Signings
Manchester City’s record signings in recent years have been astronomical. Their most expensive capture came in the summer of 2021.
£100m was forked out for attacking midfielder Jack Grealish from Premier League side Aston Villa. To cut City a tiny bit of slack, they haven’t got close to signing anyone for a nine-digit fee since.
Next on the list is 2023 recruit Josko Gvardiol. The Croatian World Cup star set the Cityzens back a cool £77.5m from RB Leipzig.
Rodri (£62.8m), Ruben Dias (£62m), Joao Cancelo and Riyad Mahrez (£60m each) complete the top six. Manager Pep Guardiola was at the helm for all of the aforementioned players.
It really does go to show the gulf in financial difference between them and Copenhagen. Furthermore, we have put together a guide on how to watch the round of 16 first-leg clash for free.
Erling Haaland Value
Unsurprisngly, Erling Haaland is one of the most valuable football players in the world. The Manchester City star is a global phenomenon.
He is currently priced at £153.1m on Transfermarkt.com. The other three City stars whose individual market values are more than the entire FC Copenhagen squad are Rodri, Phil Foden and Julian Alvarez.
Spanish defensive midfielder Rodri is valued at £93.5m – the same as England star Foden. Argentine World Cup winner Alvarez is valued at £76.5m.
Since moving to the Etihad in 2022, Haaland has seen his market value sky rocket after a hugely successful debut season in the blue half of Manchester.
Copenhagen will be fearing Haaland the most at the Parken Stadium on Tuesday night. And rightfully so. The Norwegian international is the current favourite to finish as the Champions League top scorer this season.
