Manchester City have been given a boost ahead of their Premier League clash against Burnley after Pep Guardiola revealed that Erling Haaland is in contention for selection.

Haaland Injury

Treble-winner Erling Haaland has not played for Manchester City since December 6, missing 10 games in total, due to a foot injury.

The prolific Norwegian striker, who scored 52 goals for the club last season, had scored 19 goals in 22 games in all competitions for the Cityzens this campaign and is still the Premier League’s top scorer despite his lengthy absence.

Bizarrely however, since Haaland’s injury, Pep Guardiola’s side have actually improved, failing to win just one of their ten games without their number 9, a 2-2 draw against Crystal Palace in December.

Despite this, the former Borussia Dortmund forward has shown he is eager to get back to playing football. Speaking at the Grecent Globe Soccer Awards, Haaland said: “I hope to be back really soon from injury, I’m getting bored of not playing.”

Guardiola On Haaland’s Return

Manchester City manager Guardiola has revealed that Erling Haaland is set to return to action in their Premier League fixture against Burnley on Wednesday evening.

Speaking to the media ahead of the game, Guardiola said “Apparently he will be selected. [This is] the first time he is back.

“We have all the squad, we are stronger. Definitely.

“Erling is an important player for us. Two months out, but he feels good – we have a training session [today], but apparently tomorrow he will be with us.”

Asked whether Haaland’s return from injury would be managed similarly to Kevin de Bruyne’s, Guardiola said: “Kevin’s was muscular with surgery, so it was a completely different approach.

“Erling’s was a stress on the bone, so a different approach. Step by step.”
