Manchester City have been charged by the Premier League with multiple alleged financial rule breaches following a four-year investigation into the club.
- City charged with not providing accurate revenue information from 2009/10 to 2017/18
- Failed to cooperate with Premier League investigation from 2018
- Now face possible points deduction or expulsion
The breaches date back to 2009-10 and include player contracts from 2010-16 and 2009-13 and the Premier League has referred this case to an independent commission.
Manchester City have also been charged with failing to cooperate with the investigation, specifically from 2018-19 to the current season.
The charges against City include financial information regarding revenue, details of manager and player remuneration, UEFA regulations and profitability and sustainability.
Over 100 charges have been handed to the eight-time Premier League winners who could now face a points deduction or expulsion from England’s top flight.

This is not the first time that Manchester City have found themselves in hot water regarding financial records and it probably won’t be the last.
In 2019, the club were accused of manipulating contracts in order to swerve UEFA’s Financial Fair Play regulations to cover up a £9.9 million shortfall in 2013 from the sacking of Roberto Mancini.
In 2014, City were found guilty of breaching FFP rules and came to a £49 million settlement with UEFA, £32 million of which was suspended and their squad size for the 2014-15 Champions League campaign was reduced.
According to Premier League betting sites, Pep Guardiola’s side are second-favourites to win a ninth domestic title this season ahead of a tight race to the finish line with Arsenal.
In February 2020, City were banned from the Champions League for two seasons after being found to have ‘seriously misled UEFA and broken FFP rules’.
Later that year in July, the ban was lifted by the court of arbitration for sport and the club’s fine was reduced from €30 million to €10 million.
