Liverpool are enjoying a wonderful season as they have their eyes set on a quadruple but they’ve been hit with an unfortunate injury crisis which could see their form drop.
Liverpool’s injury list
Mohamed Salah and Wataru Endo are expected to miss up to a month serving their nation at AFCON and the Asian Cup. Back at Liverpool, Dominik Szoboszlai is out with a hamstring problem, plus Thiago and Stefan Bajcetic are still nursing their injuries from last season.
However, Liverpool’s main issue is their defence. Joel Matip is out for the rest of the season, while fullbacks Andy Robertson and Kostas Tsimikas aren’t ready to return until early February.
Trent Alexander-Arnold is the latest to join the injury list with a knee problem which could see him out for up to a month.
Liverpool’s fixture list
Thankfully for Liverpool, it’s the winter break so some injuries will be less problematic. Liverpool do still have five games to play before February though which could impact title and domestic cup chances.
Liverpool play Fulham twice in the Carabao Cup Semi-Final, they also have Premier League games against Bournemouth and Chelsea, plus an FA Cup fourth round tie against either Norwich or Bristol Rovers.
Manchester City are hot behind Liverpool and a couple of slip ups from the Reds could prove costly in the title race.
Liverpool’s recent struggles
Liverpool looked nervous defensively in their last match against Arsenal. It was a makeshift defence with 20-year-old Jarrod Quansah partnering with Ibrahim Konate, while Joe Gomez continues to play out of position at left-back to fill in for Robertson and Tsimikas. Luckily, Arsenal had an off day and Liverpool were 2-0 victors.
Without Salah, Liverpool didn’t look much of a threat either. Darwin Nunez continues to miss major chances, Cody Gakpo hasn’t managed to cement his place in many of the first team squads and Diogo Jota has had a horrid time with injuries which makes him a liability despite his ruthlessness in front of goal.
