Ahead of Monday night’s Merseyside derby at Anfield, Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has provided an injury update on four key players.

Liverpool are without a win in their last four Premier League matches, and with pressure mounting on Jurgen Klopp, a victory over bitter rivals Everton is vital for the German.

Four players returned from injury to take part in Liverpool training this week, providing a boost ahead of the Merseyside derby.

Luis Diaz and Ibrahima Konate remain out due to injury, having not yet returned to training at Melwood.

Reds forward Diogo Jota hasn’t had any involvement since October, after struggling with a calf injury, with fellow front-man Roberto Firmino also not featuring since the restart after the World Cup due to injury. Klopp confirmed the duo’s return to training ahead of the tie against Everton.

“Players are back in training still in different stages.” Klopp said.

“Diogo is the closest, he’s trained for two days so another three days training possibly. He’s in contention, I would say.

“Bobby [Firmino], the next one. I don’t know. We have to see training intensity.”

Arthur Melo, who joined on loan from Juventus in the summer, has only managed 13 minutes of action for Liverpool since arriving, as he was forced to undergo thigh surgery.

Key defender Virgil van Dijk is another who has been out on the sidelines. The Dutchman has struggled with a hamstring injury.

“Virgil, I don’t think he’s that close already but we will work.”

With the good news, comes some bad news for Reds fans however.

Klopp revealed that Thiago has struggled with a hip problem, and hasn’t taken part in training all week.

“Thiago has some problems, I have to ask him what I’m allowed to say!

“His hip, something like this. That’s it pretty much. He wasn’t able to train.”

Liverpool are currently 10th in the Premier League table, with opponents Everton languishing in 18th.

Premier League betting sites have the Reds are priced at around 1/2 to overcome their rivals in the Merseyside derby.
