Liverpool are preparing a shock £40m move for Leeds right-back Archie Gray as a back-up for Trent Alexander-Arnold.

Who is Archie Gray?

Gray only made his professional debut earlier on in the season but he’s now being valued at a whopping £40m. The 17-year-old is very versatile which a type of player that Jurgen Klopp tends to go for now given the injury crisis that Liverpool have experienced in the past couple of season.

He had been compared to Liverpool’s Alexander-Arnold for his ability to play as a right-back but also can hold his own in midfield. Leeds value Gray around the £40m mark.

Gray’s contract ends in June 2025, but Leeds might want to cash in for the youngster now in case he ends up leaving on a free contract. Talent clearly runs in the family as he is the great nephew of Leeds legend Eddie Gray.

Liverpool aren’t the only team after Gray. It’s understood that Crystal Palace and Everton are both looking at the teenager.

It’s also down to Gray if he’s willing to leave his boyhood club for the glory of Liverpool. We’ve seen it happen in the past to players like Jack Grealish and Jordan Henderson.

Gray’s stats

Gray started off the season playing in midfield but soon slipped over to the right-back position in early October. Gray has made 16 appearances for Leeds in all competitions. He’s started 14 games and has come off the bench twice. He’s been a major part of the club’s efforts to secure six clean sheets in the Championship. The third most in the league. In fact, Leeds are third in the Championship table as they’ll be fighting to get back into the Premier League after they were relegated last season.

Leeds United’s final game comes against 19th placed Plymouth Argyle tomorrow (11th November) at 3pm in what should be a comfortable afternoon for them. Gray will be hoping for another clean sheet to further impress the Premier League clubs who are keeping a close eye on him.
