Paul Joyce confirms Thiago has sustained a muscle injury and will likely miss the remainder of the season.
Thiago’s injury history.
After missing the last 41 Liverpool games with injury, Thiago made his return to the squad – coming off the bench in the last few minutes of Liverpool’s 3-1 defeat to Arsenal.
Fans have now received the news that Thiago is injured once again after his cameo appearance.
Since joining in summer 2020, Thiago has missed 107 games and counting for Liverpool. That is three seasons worth for teams who aren’t in European competitions. That also rounds up to 558 days missed.
Thiago missed 161 games in his seven-year spell at Bayern Munich. He missed more games through injury than he has played for Bayern in the Bundesliga, only making 150 appearances. Thiago’s longest injury was in 2013. This was a knee ligament tear which saw him out for nearly a year – 334 days in total. He’s also had muscle tears and spine injuries.
Thiago had a successful time at Bayern winning seven Bundesliga titles, a Champions League and four German Cups.
The season before he joined Bayern Munich, Thiago was at Barcelona. The injury problems started in 2012/13 with knee and shin injuries. Thiago missed most of the season.
Thiago’s future at Liverpool
Thiago’s contract expires at the end of the season and it seems unlikely that Liverpool will renew it. The Spanish midfielder turns 33 in April and it might be time to end his career. Not many clubs will be interested in Thiago because of his injury history and high wages.
Liverpool’s new midfield has been a shining light for them this season. Dominik Szoboszlai, Alexis Mac Allister and Wataru Endo have impressed fans. There doesn’t seem to be much of a reason to keep Thiago around.
