Liverpool assistant manager Pepijn Lijnders believes an England call-up for Curtis Jones would be a “no-brainer” following the midfielder’s fine form throughout the campaign.
Curtis Jones’ Form
The Liverpool academy graduate has gradually become a key man for Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool side this season despite the German manager investing heavily in his midfield over the summer.
Liverpool signed Dominik Szoboszlai, Alexis Mac Allister, Wataru Endo and Ryan Gravenberch during the summer transfer window to provide much-needed competition for places in midfield, but Jones has been arguably the standout performer.
The Toxteth-born midfielder has started 15 games across all competitions this season, laying on 3 assists for his teammates and notching 4 goals as Liverpool top the Premier League table.
Jones has featured heavily in England’s youth-set up, earning 51 caps from Under-16 level to Under-21. However, with the 22-year-old turning 23 at the end of the month, he’ll be on the lookout for a senior England call-up from Gareth Southgate.

Lijnders Thinks Jones Deserves An England Call-up
One man who believes that Jones is well deserving of an England call-up is Liverpool assistant manager Pepijn Lijnders.
Speaking to the media ahead of Liverpool’s League Cup semi-final, which you can stream live here, Lijnders said: “It is a no brainer,”
“You have eyes, no? If you are top of the league and one of the most decisive players in the team, the player who with and without the ball sets the tone and takes the initiative and always shows up, then.”
Should Jones Get An England Call-up?
With England regulars Jordan Henderson and Kalvin Phillips both struggling at club level, it’s hard to argue against the introduction of fresh blood ahead of the European Championship in the summer.
Henderson, who is in the autumn of his career, struggled to settle in Saudi Arabia following his, much-maligned, move to Al-Ettifaq and recently made the switch to Dutch superclub Ajax.
Phillips, on the other hand, has found it difficult to break into Pep Guardiola’s thoughts at Manchester City since signing for the club in 2022 and now looks on the brink of signing for West Ham on loan.
