Liverpool and Manchester United are rivals in their own right but now they will rival each other in the transfer window for this Ligue 1 star.

Who are the two clubs fighting over?

According to Nice-Matin, Nice defender Jean-Clair Todibo is attracting attention from Liverpool and Manchester United. Todibo is a 24-year-old French centre-back who’s helping Nice fight for the Ligue 1 title. Nice are five points behind PSG in second.

Todibo started his career at Toulouse. Barcelona saw his potential and bought him in 2019 for £860k. In January 2020, Todibo went out on a short-term loan to Schalke but he didn’t get his chance to impress due to COVID-19. In October 2020, Todibo was sent on another short-term loan to Benfica. He only made one appearance for them.

Todibo was sent on yet another short-term loan to Nice. Third time the charm for Todibo though as Nice decided to buy him for £7.3m

Todibo is now a first team player for Nice and is building a reputation for himself in Europe.

Have either side made a bid?

Nice have made it clear they’d like £50m for Todibo. This makes Todibo more of a summer target as not many clubs splash that much money out in January.

In today’s market though, Todibo is very affordable and could spark a bidding war between Liverpool and Manchester United.

Liverpool seems to be Todibo’s ideal location. Liverpool look likely to return to the Champions League next season and fellow French defender Ibrahim Konate could play a big part in persuading Todibo (I wouldn’t count on Varane putting a good word in for Manchester United).

With Jürgen Klopp in charge, he is seen as an ‘emblematic and well-established’ manager and could certainly take Todibo to the next level.

Virgil Van Dijk is 32-years-old so there’s a chance that Todibo could take over from Liverpool’s skipper.

Manchester United would be a risk for the French International as not many recent signings have been able to settle into the club.
