After much speculation, the Liam Smith v Chris Eubank Jr rematch has been confirmed by both sides.

The two will face each other in a middleweight rematch on Saturday 2 September at Manchester’s AO Arena.

Liam Smith v Chris Eubank Jr two was set to take place at the start of July, however Smith suffered an injury that forced the fight to be postponed.

Smith won the first meeting between the pair. The win took the Liverpudlian’s record to 33 wins, three defeats and one draw. In that battle he stopped Eubank Jr in the fourth round. It was a fight the caught the eye of the boxing world, with the pair often clashing in the media.

Despite the first meeting, the two were straight at each other’s throats in the media today. Smith said:

“I’m fully healed up now, injury-free, and I’m looking forward to finishing Chris Eubank Jr’s career.”

Eubank Jr has won 32 fights with three losses. It was Eubank Jr who activated the rematch clause for Liam Smith v Chris Eubank Jr two. Speaking to the media, Eubank Jr said:

“No more excuses, no more postponements. Smith can’t run forever.”

There’s no doubting the dislike between the pair, promoter Ben Shalom described the rivalry as “one of the most heated in British boxing”.
