Lee Evans is set to face Luke Humphries in the PDC World Championship second round this Sunday, but he has said the prospect of facing the favourite for this year’s title isn’t a daunting one.
Lee Evans Bidding For Major Upset
It would be a major upset if Lee Evans was to beat Luke Humphries in the second round of the World Championships this weekend, but the underdog is certainly not afraid of the matchup this weekend.
Evans is well acquainted with Humphries, as the pros used to play pairs together years ago – before either were in the world rankings.
Nowadays though Evans is in the top 100 world rankings, while Humphries comes into their clash as not only world number three – but also betting favourite for the title.
When asked about the matchup with his friend, Evans responded with: “What a draw.
“Good job I know him well. I know his game, he knows me, we played pairs together years ago. I’ve got to play my best game I know that and he maybe needs to come down a step because he’s beating everyone at the moment but I’m looking forward to that. It’s a free shot.”
Evans was able to make a convincing start to his championship campaign in round one on Saturday afternoon, with a comfortable win against Sandro Eric Sosing earning his a match against Luke Humphries.
“It was just one of those games where I felt really comfortable, really steady. I felt that even if he did come back and start playing well against me, I could have got back on top again.” Evans said after the game.
“After the first set I just felt really comfortable so I’m happy to get over the line and I look forward to tomorrow now.”
Evans beat his opponent from the Philippines in an easy 3-0 win, with the Englishman saying he didn’t even feel the nerves on his debut at Ally Pally.
“If I missed a match dart or something I might have started feeling the nerves but it doesn’t feel any different to anything else because I don’t really feel the nerves.
“I think the European Tour was a massive plus for today. If that was my first time, maybe it would have been a totally different game. Maybe more nerves would have set in.”
Evans meets Humphries on Sunday night in the second round of the World Championships, with the game due to start at 21:30.
