Andy Newton’s ‘LAY OF THE DAY’ Horse Racing Tip On Saturday: 2:00pm Sandown – IN EXCELSIS DEO
The Harry Fry-trained IN EXCELSIS DEO will have his backers at Sandown on Saturday after a fair second at Cheltenham last time out.
However, he was a beaten jolly that day and went down by just over 3 lengths at the line, while the third – Funambule Sivola didn’t really frank the form when a well-beaten 6th at Donny last week.
Yes, he’s a consistent sort – hitting the top three in his last four runs but has still only won the once over fences and that came in a much weaker race at Hereford.
He’s also rated 6lbs higher than that success and he also had the 3lb claimer Lorcan Murtagh riding that day, so is really 9lbs higher this time.
Another plus is that we’ll have four others running for us that all have chances – course winner Red Rookie, Saint Segal, who ran on well at Lingfield last time, Sacre Coeur for last year’s winning yard (Dan Skelton) and Harper’s Brook, who will like the drop in trip after getting collared late on last time at Ascot.
Finally, the Harry Fry yard are 0-11 with their chasers at Sandown, which gives us one last thing to cling onto.
We’ve more horse racing free tips here – including our daily NAP of the Day and Lucky 15 selections.

What Is Lay Betting On Horse Racing?
In short lay betting is to bet on something NOT to happen.
With the introduction of betting exchanges like Betfair, punters can now bet on a horse or a team NOT to win by effectively becoming a bookmaker.
This can be done by staking against a horse or team on a betting exchange.
For example, if you think a horse won’t win a race and it’s 3.00 (2/1). Then you could lay this horse for £10.
If the horse loses, you will win £10 (less any set commission). Or if the horse wins you will have to pay out £20 (just like a bookmaker would).
See below another example – if you were to oppose Galopin Des Champs at 2.80 for £10.
You can see the liability if the horse wins would be £18. Or if the horse loses you will win £10 (less any commission).
