Manchester City defender Kyle Walker will be left out of Pep Guardiola’s squad for their pre-season clash versus Bayern Munich on Wednesday, following reports linking him with a move to the Bundesliga giants.

Kyle Walker, who has been heavily linked with a move to Bayern Munich, will reportedly be left out of the Manchester City squad to face the Bundesliga champions in pre-season on Wednesday.

The 33-year-old captained City in their last friendly, where they defeated Yokohama F. Marinos 5-3 last week, but with talks at a sensitive stage – he is expected to be rested against who may well be his new employers.

Walker is said to be keen on the move to Germany, and has reportedly told Pep Guardiola that he wants to go through with the transfer.

Thomas Tuchel’s side will have to pay £13million in order for the Citizens to sanction his departure, however Guardiola wants to keep the defender at the Etihad.

He currently has one-year remaining on his contract with City, and they are willing to extend for a further year, whilst Bayern are believed to be offering a two-year deal, with an option for a third-year.

A treble winner last season, and a mainstay at the club for the last six-years, Walker’s exit would undoubtedly leave huge shoes to fill in the City dressing room.

Speaking ahead of the pre-season clash versus Bayern, Guardiola highlighted the importance of Walker’s role within his squad.

“I heard the comments from Thomas Tuchel about Kyle, I will say the same. What I can say he is a very important player for us, he has a very specific quality, formidable opponent out wide. That quality is irreplaceable.

“The clubs are in touch, we will fight for him.”
