Jurrien Timber’s transfer has been delayed after ‘minor’ contract complications set the deal back, but Arsenal are confident over the signing and are expected to announce their new defender on Friday.

Arsenal have been more active than most clubs in the transfer market this summer, but their announcement of new signing Jurrien Timber has taken longer than most fans will have wanted.

The Gunners agreed a deal with Ajax for Timber last week, with the versatile defender costing the Gunners a reasonable £38m to take their summer spending to over £200m.

Mikel Arteta has also signed Kai Havertz from Chelsea and West Ham captain Declan Rice (who is also waiting to be announced) in the last month during a busy transfer window.

Arsenal had hoped that the Timber deal would be confirmed before the end of the week, as the Gunners begin their pre-season tour in Germany tonight with a match against Nurnberg.

A ‘minor’ complication in the contract details for Timber was supposedly the problem and is the reason that the signing’s announcement has been delayed.

Timber’s brother took to Instagram last week to post a good luck message to his sibling at his new club, so Arsenal fans know the deal is all but completed regardless of the complications.

With the contract negotiations almost over the line, Arsenal fans can expect their new defender to be announced before the end of the week.

Timber will have to wait until Arsenal return from Germany before he can join up with the squad, but with just over three weeks until the Premier League starts the Dutchman has plenty of time to gel into his new life in London.
