Mohamed Salah had Egypt and Liverpool supporters in disbelief when he went down with a hamstring problem. It was an injury that seemed to have Egypt’s AFCON hopes and Liverpool’s title challenge left in tatters.
What is the news on Salah’s injury?
In his press conference ahead of Liverpool’s trip to Bournemouth, Jurgen Klopp was asked if he had an update on Salah’s condition. He replied: “We don’t know anything. I spoke with him last night. These injuries need further assessment. In the moment it was a shock. He felt it. We know how rarely Mo goes off so there is definitely something.”
The last time Salah missed a Liverpool game through injury was October 2019. Salah is known to be one of the fittest and athletic footballers in the world but it seems as though the 31-year-old’s body might be seeing the end of it’s peak fitness.
Liverpool will want to be careful with Salah and won’t rush him back despite being in a title race. The intense fixture list and hundreds of previous games in a Liverpool shirt might have finally caught up with him.
Klopp also added that Liverpool’s medical team may be sent over to assess the damage: “We will see. It depends on the diagnosis. They’ll do ultrasound and MRI and we will see.”
Egypt manager Rui Vitoria has said that he doesn’t think the Salah injury is too serious which is why Salah has stayed with the Egypt national team. He said: “Now I don’t know because it’s [too] early to see something. I think it’s not dangerous, but let’s see if Salah recovers.”
Other Liverpool injuries
Dominik Szoboszlai, Thiago, Trent Alexander-Arnold, Andy Robertson, Kostas Tsimikas are all still out for Liverpool but Klopp has given positive updates on some of the listed players for their possible returns. Klopp even gave a slight dig at some of Alexander-Arnold’s recent modelling gig.

He said: “Trent can walk on the catwalk! After Fulham we will see. Trent is close, Dom [Szoboszlai] close, Robbo [Andy Robertson] close. All going in the right direction but not for the weekend’s game.”
