The curtain was officially pulled down on a glittering 12-year stint at Liverpool this week as the club’s captain opts to join the Saudi revolution. It is no secret that lucrative pay packages are a major driving factor behind the slew of deals being completed in the Middle East this summer, but Jordan Henderson’s wage at new club Al Ettifaq is set to make history.

Jordan Henderson’s move to Saudi Arabia is a huge coup for the nation’s rapidly emerging Pro League, who have managed to tempt one of the Premier League’s more well-established elite-level captains.

England’s vice-captain will join up with fellow Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard, who was also drawn by Al Ettifaq’s attractive proposal.

The Saudi club will pay a £12m transfer fee for Henderson, but his new and improved wage package is undoubtedly the catalyst for a previously unforeseen career move.

The three-year deal is worth £36m-per-year and around £700,000-per-week, making him the highest paid English player ever.

Jordan Henderson’s Wage Breakdown at Al Ettifaq

The 33-year-old was pocketing just over £7m-per-season pre-tax on Merseyside – a wage package that is certainly not to be sniffed at.

However, his tax-free earnings in Saudi Arabia blow those figures out of the water, just see below for a full breakdown.

  • £36,400,000-per-year
  • £3,033,333-per-month
  • £700,000-per-week
  • £99,726-per-day

Rather incredibly, he is set to earn around £225,000-a-week more than the next-nearest English player – Marcus Rashford – whose 30 goals and 11 assists last term warranted him a bumper new contract worth £375,000-a-week.

Jadon Sancho, Raheem Sterling and Jack Grealish make up the rest of the Three Lions players currently earning £300,000-per-week or more.

Mason Mount, Declan Rice, John Stones, Reece James, Phil Foden, Harry Kane and Jude Bellingham all earn £200,000 or more.
