The latest Jordan Henderson transfer exclusive reveals that Ajax are in hot pursuit of the ex-Liverpool man and could offer him a way out of Saudi Pro League side Al-Ettifaq.
Jordan Henderson Eyed Up By Ajax
Ajax are reassuring Jordan Henderson they have serious interest in signing him ahead of his crunch talks with Al-Ettifaq. Talks with the Saudi Arabian club are being scheduled by the player so that there is a clearer understanding of his situation by the start of next week – and the England international is pushing for a move.
It will not be easy to convince his Saudi Pro League side to let him go, as they invested heavily in him and he accepted to become part of their new project less than six months ago.
Yet Henderson will speak of personal and sporting reasons as to why he would like the opportunity to return to European football as soon as possible.
Ajax are very keen on a loan deal for Henderson, 33, but cannot afford to take on his mammoth wages – with the former Liverpool man reported to earn at least £350,000-a-week.
Intermediaries have touched base in the past week to show intent around Ajax’s interest, and it is understood there is ongoing dialogue heading into Henderson’s talks with Al-Ettifaq as he prepares to request a move.
Al-Ettifaq Could Block Jordan Henderson Move
It is not expected that his Saudi club will be welcoming to any transfer request but Henderson is concerned about his place at Euro 2024, and is being touted around Europe as a player that could have huge influence across the second half of this season.
The traditions and history of Ajax appeal to the 33-year-old, as well as the level of competition in the Eredivisie, but the finances around such a move would be key to making it feasible and other opportunities could also yet open up.
