Nicky Henderson’s star novice Jonbon has been named a confirmed runner for Saturday’s Grade 1 bet365 Celebration Chase at Sandown on Saturday.

Just two weeks after triumph in the Grade 1 Maghull Novices’ Chase at Aintree, Jonbon is scheduled to run for the fourth time this year and a sixth of the season.

The seven-year-old went off at a price of 2/11 and blew Marvel De Cerisy, Fusian and Calico out of the water on Merseyside to win by 43 lengths and collect a second Grade 1 title over fences.

Earlier this week, trainer Nicky Henderson told the Racing Post Jonbon’s proposed run at Sandown Park Racecourse in Esher, Surrey wasn’t guaranteed but it was a definite possibility.

“He’s in very good form and it’s a good prize. I wasn’t sure what was around and although it’s not a novice chase, it’s a good prize. It’s not definite he’ll run and I’m going to monitor things for 48 hours but he could very easily go there.”

He heads a field of five confirmed runners alongside the Henry de Bromhead-trained Captain Guinness alongside Paul Nicholls’ Greaneteen, Gary Moore’s Editeur Du Gite and Venetia Williams’ Funambule Sivola.

At Cheltenham last month, Jonbon (2/1) was well beaten by over five lengths to the Willie Mullins-trained El Fabiolo (11/10F) to mark just a second career defeat.

The British and Irish jumps seasons both come to an end on finale day at Sandown and day five of the Punchestown festival on Saturday.
