John Ryder could be set for the biggest fight of his life. It is rumoured that ‘The Gorilla’ could face Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez in the UK on May 6th. ‘Canelo’ boxes every year around ‘Cinco De Mayo’ weekend, so could we see the Mexican boxing superstar come over to UK shores for the very first time?
Ryder Rumoured To Face Canelo In UK
It looks like John Ryder could well be in for the biggest fight of his life this summer. Rumours are circulating that Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez is set to come to the UK and make his boxing debut over here on ‘Cinco De Mayo’ weekend.
A fight between the pair makes sense, given that Ryder deserves a world title shot and ‘Canelo’ is looking for a fresh challenge after defeating Gennady Golovkin last time out.
John Ryder’s last shot at world honours was back in 2019 when he challenged Callum Smith for the WBA-Super World Super Middleweight Title. Ryder was hard done by on the night, losing a close unanimous decision. Many fans felt ‘The Gorilla’ did enough to become world champion, but it wasn’t to be.
Since then, Ryder has notched up four consecutive wins. This includes two outstanding victories over Daniel Jacobs and Zach Parker respectively. The 34-year-old certainly deserves his shot at a world title belt again, so the ‘Canelo’ fight makes sense.

The fight isn’t totally beyond the realms of possibility, with the Mexican pound-for-pound king expressing an interest in fighting in the UK on several occasions. If the fight was made, ‘Canelo’ would be an odds on favourite with the best online gambling sites to knock John Ryder out.
However, Ryder himself has won his last two fights as the betting underdog, so he clearly doesn’t mind going in there expected to lose.
The Mexican multi-weight world champion boasts a professional record of 58-2-2 with 39 knockouts. He is widely regarded as one of the best fighters of his generation. It would be incredible to see ‘Canelo’ box on UK shores for the very first time. No doubt these are just rumours and speculation, but if it were to happen on May 6th, it would be quite an incredible spectacle.
If the fight were to materialise, Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez would be the overriding betting favourite with the best UK betting sites to beat the Englishman. John Ryder would likely go in as a massively priced underdog with the best sports betting apps. Fingers crossed the fight gets made and we see the great Mexican on UK shores this summer.
