The Charlie Appleby yard have their horses in tip-top form and head into today with a 38% strike-rate with their runners in the last few weeks. They also boast an impressive 31% record with their 3 year-olds at Newmarket, so their Majestic Pride has a lot going for him. This well-bred colt holds a 2000 Guineas entry for next month and improved on his debut run to win easily at Chelmsford last November. His track experience is a big plus too and William Buick prefers him over the other Appleby runner City Of Kings.

New Kingdom and Tacarib Bay will be popular but the Jason Weaver tip here is seeking some value with the Ian Williams runner Spirit Of Light. This 6 year-old will be fitter than most, having already run six times this season. The last of those was a fair second at Musselburgh earlier this month over this 7f trip. Weaver feels a quicker pace will also suit the horse today, while the soft ground will be fine having acted well with cut the last day.

Another horse that will be fit from some recent runs and despite not winning the last twice had excuses. Outbreak was hampered at Wolverhampton two runs back and last time at Lingfield had to race very wide. Weaver thinks the drop back to a mile and the return to the turf will help having won on the grass at Salisbury over today’s trip last season.

The main race of the day and the Jason Weaver tip is the Andrew Balding runner Masekela. This 4 year-old has been gelded over the winter after a winless season last term. He remains a horse with ability though and let’s not forget he was an excellent fourth in the Epsom Derby last year too. Needs to bounce back but losing his ‘tackle’ is expected to help and as long as the dead 8 runners all head to post, Masekela looks the each-way value in this Group Three.
