SportsLens revealed last week how Gareth Southgate had been plotting to experiment with two different ways of playing so that Ollie Watkins and Ivan Toney could both be tested in England’s attack.

The boss is eager to establish a solid Harry Kane understudy ahead of this summer’s Euros. Following Watkins’ display against Brazil, it appears Toney will get his chance to audition for the role against Belgium.

This represents a fantastic chance for Toney, who is indeed expected to start Tuesday’s game, and if he performs well it will reignite his chances of ending up at a big Premier League club.

Sources have told SportsLens that scouts are planning to watch him in the friendly at Wembley; it had been expected this would be his chance to shine on the international stage.

Arsenal and Chelsea have both been wavering over their intent with Toney, despite both making genuine in-roads around understanding the terms of a deal that would be needed in the summer.

However, it is understood both Tottenham and Manchester United could both yet come into the conversation to sign him too and are interested to see how he fares.

Toney is expected to cost upwards of £60million this summer, with Brentford accepting they face a losing battle to keep him.

But at the moment it remains unclear exactly where he will be heading, with West Ham also linked at the weekend.

Arsenal has long been favourites to sign Toney and their interest has been real over the past year, but it remains unclear exactly how they will solve their striker dilemma. It could well come down to how much cash they end up injecting into the side.
