Frankie Dettori has been shortlisted as one of the final six for this month’s BBC Sports Personality Of The Year awards and as the news broke the popular jockey shared an hilarious WhatsApp conversation between his new I’m A Celebrity…Get Me Out Of Here friends.
I’m A Celebrity Campmates React To Frankie Dettori SPOTY News
The 2023 BBC Sports Personality Of The Year final six contenders for the top award have been announced and one of the sixsome is top jockey Frankie Dettori.
Dettori, who famously did a retirement U-turn recently and will carry on riding into 2024 in the US, was all over the TV recently after his stint in the I’m A Celebrity…Get Me Out Of Here jungle.
Unfortunately, Dettori failed to woo the ITV viewers as was the first to be voted off the show by the public. However, the former champion jockey has stuck around in Australia to congratulate the new ‘King Of The Jungle’ – Sam Thompson and will be part of the ‘Coming Out’ show this week.
Despite failing to come out of the stalls during his time in the jungle, Frankie’s new I’m A Celebrity friends were celebrating with the jockey after he was announced as one of the final six runners in this year’s ‘SPOTY Stakes’
2023 I’m A Celebrity Campmates Have WhatsApp Group Called ‘#JungleSquad 2023’
With the 2023 I’m A Celebrity campmates having set up a WhatsApp group after leaving the jungle – you can see their hilarious reaction to the Dettori SPOTY news below.
With Hollyoaks’ Nick Pickard, who Frankie did the milk float Dingo Dollar trial in the jungle with, breaking the news on their new chat group.
This follows responses from Josie Gibson and Danielle Harold – saying “well done” – but with the 2023 ‘King Of The Jungle’, Sam Thompson offering to hunt Dettori out for one of his famous jungle hugs, Frankie declines.
This leads to boxer Tony Bellew, who finished second and built up a bond with Thompson, saying to Frankie – “he’s now your problem”.
Dettori will be joined by Mary Earps, Stuart Broad, Alfie Hewett and Rory McIlroy – while just like I’m A Celebrity will have to beat another ‘Thompson’ with athletics star Katarina Johnson-Thompson also shortlisted.
BBC Sports Personality Of The Year will be live on BBC1 (7pm) on Tuesday 19th December 2023.

Has A Jockey Ever Won The BBC Sports Personality Of The Year?
Yes, Sir AP McCoy won SPOTY back in 2010, HRH Princess Anne (1971) and Zara Phillips (2006) were other horsey folk to land the BBC top award.
Lester Piggott also won the SPOTY special achievement award in 1984 and 1994.
Lioness Keeper Mary Earps The Big Betting Favourite To Scoop Top SPOTY Prize
Following on from last year’s win by England footballer Beth Mead, there is another of the Lionesses at the head of the SPOTY betting – Mary Earps.
Earps is the Lionesses keeper and her heroics during the summer World Cup helped England get to the final. Despite losing 1-0 to Spain in August, Mary Earps is still hotly tipped by the best betting sites to scoop the 2023 BBC Sports Personality Of The Year award.
