According to reports, Manchester City star Ilkay Gundogan could return to Borussia Dortmund this summer, as Barcelona are unable to fulfill the German’s wage demands.

As the season comes to a close, Manchester City fans will be anticipating a record-breaking ending as the Cityzens are one win away from clinching the infamous treble.

The blue side of Manchester will face Inter Milan on Saturday evening in the long-awaited Champions League final and a win would not only complete the treble, but also be the club’s first European trophy in history.

After clinching the FA Cup with a 2-1 victory over Manchester United, Pep Guardiola’s side will be full of confidence when they travel to Istanbul this weekend.

Ilkay Gundogan, who scored twice in City’s FA Cup final triumph, is reportedly set to leave the club this summer and has attracted interest from Barcelona and Borussia Dortmund.

Since signing for Manchester City in 2016, the German international has made 303 appearances and has scored 60 goals in the process.

However, the 32-year-old is out of contract this summer and despite talks over a renewed deal, Gundogan is yet to sign and is unlikely to return to the Etihad next season.

Borussia Dortmund are in the running to sign their former midfield maestro, who made 157 appearances for the Yellow and Black between 2011-2016.

Barcelona were also reported to have heavy interest in the German international, however, due to the Spanish club’s recent financial troubles – Gundogan’s wage demands were too high for the La Liga giants.

Guardiola is set to bring in a number of players this summer and Chelsea midfielder, Mateo Kovacic, has reportedly agreed personal terms over a move to the Etihad this summer and could be a direct replacement for the departing Gundogan.
