Neil Warnock has made a shocking return to football as he begins a second-spell as manager at Championship side Huddersfield, the 74-year-old announced his retirement only 10 months ago.

In April last year Warnock confirmed his retirement on the popular Sky Sports show, Soccer Saturday. Prior to this announcement he had been managing Middlesborough but was let go in November 2021. Huddersfield find themselves in a relegation battle which has been enough to bring Warnock back to the club and out of retirement.

The former Cardiff and QPR manager has enjoyed a career that spans over 40 years, which includes reigns at 16 different clubs. However at his most recent side Middlesborough, the veteran had a difficult time as he only managed a win percentage of 33.3%.

Warnock addressed the media to show his excitement over his return to Huddersfield, who were a Premier League side over the last few years, and made his intentions very clear, as he looks to bring joy back to the Terriers’ fans.

The 74-year-old said: “I’m really excited about this challenge. My first spell at Huddersfield had everything; we went to Wembley twice, moved into the new stadium, and really built the club from nothing. It was a special time.”

“I’m coming back to help the club, but also Dean Hoyle. I know what he has done behind the scenes and I’ve always had a lot of time for him.”

Huddersfield will be overseen by interim head coach Narcis Pealch for their league fixture against Stoke this Wednesday and Warnock’s return will have to wait for Saturday’s battle with Birmingham.
