One victory from six Premier League games has quickly suppressed any pre-season beliefs that Chelsea could be title contenders this season. Another staggering squad overhaul and yet another switch in the managerial hot seat has left Blues fans feeling more disillusioned than ever. Although it is still very early in the season, we are posing the question – how much would it cost Chelsea to sack Mauricio Pochettino?
Is Mauricio Pochettino’s Job Under Threat?
A seemingly bottomless chequebook, coupled with a boundless desire for immediate success gave way to a startling period of change at Chelsea over the summer.
As evidenced by Tottenham’s post-Gareth Bale spending spree in 2013, and Nottingham Forest’s record 30-man window last summer, bringing in a slew of names does not always translate to success – in fact, quite the opposite.
Off the back of having to deal with the egos at PSG, Mauricio Pochettino has once again been tasked with a job that has proved too much for its recent predecessors, and now weighs heavy on his own shoulders.
The former Tottenham boss’ arrival brought with it much promise. A proven track record of nurturing young talent and maximising the full capacity of his players could not have suited this Chelsea side any closer, particularly after a deflating 13th-placed finish in 2022/23.
However, 11 incomings and 18 outgoing later, the Blues once again find themselves in an unprecedented period of adaption, which until moulded and gelled into Pochettino’s vision for the future, will continue to be in limbo.
One win from a possible six. Joint-third least goals scored in the Premier League after six games (5). No goals scored in September. It is grim reading for Chelsea fans, but even more so for Todd Boehly and the rest of the club’s hierarchy, who must one again consider turning to the managerial merry-go-round.

How Much Would It Cost Chelsea To Sack Mauricio Pochettino?
It appears Boehly has at least learned from his previous mistakes when it comes to managers, and only offered Pochettino a two-year contract as opposed to the five Graham Potter was offered.
There is an option to extend for a third should both parties be satisfied.
According to WageIndicator, Pochettino is set to earn an annual salary of £10.4million, meaning if he was to see out his agreed two-year deal he could be £20.8m better off.
Typically teams are forced to pay the remainder of a manager’s contract if they cut ties, so it is safe to assume Chelsea would have to pay at least £20.8m if they sacked Pochettino before his current deal ends.
