Mikel Arteta has confirmed that Gabriel Jesus will be out for weeks following an injury he picked up in a recent Champions League game against Sevilla. Since joining Arsenal, Jesus has struggled with injuries which has held him back from reaching his full potential. How many days has Jesus missed for the Gunners?
Jesus’ Arsenal injury history
Jesus has missed 133 days due to injury since joining Arsenal. His biggest injury to date came during the Qatar World Cup where he picked up a knee problem. That saw Jesus on the sidelines for 100 days. Since then the knee issue returned that saw Jesus miss the start of the season. In Seville, he was forced off due to a hamstring problem that now could see the Brazilian out until the new year. All together, Jesus has missed 23 games for Arsenal with that number set to be extended. Jesus will be missing key games for the Gunners including trips to Newcastle, Aston Villa and Liverpool.
Jesus’ Manchester City injury history
Jesus’ injury troubles haven’t just been at Arsenal. Before he signed for the Gunners, Jesus played for Manchester City. He spent six years at the club but was injured for 376 days of that time. Jesus’ biggest injury at City came in his first season where he was out for 67 days with a metatarsal fracture. Other injuries for Jesus included a fractured eye socket, torn knee ligament and repeated hamstring injuries, In total, Jesus missed 74 games for City.
What’s next for Jesus?
Jesus will be replaced by back-up striker Eddie Nketiah until he returns. Despite being a back-up striker, Nketiah has actually scored more goals than Jesus this season with five goals compared to the Brazilian’s four.
There has been rumours of Arsenal going in for Ivan Toney in January but with Brentford recently slapping a £100m price value on Toney’s head, Arsenal might find it best to stick with the injury prone striker at least until the summer.
Arsenal signed Jesus last summer for £45m but in the two seasons, he’s only managed to score 15 goals which had led some Arsenal fans to believe the ex City man might’ve been a waste of money.
