How long will Chris Basham be out for? There is likely to be an extensive recovery period for the Sheffield United captain, after suffering a suspected ankle break.

What Happened to Chris Basham Against Fulham?

Although tests will later confirm which part of Chris Basham’s lower leg is damaged, there is no underplaying how severe it looked.

A noticeable hush fell over Craven Cottage as the medical team rushed to the Sheffield United skipper, after he buckled whilst chasing a loose ball and fell to the floor without opposition contact.

Images have now surfaced showing what appears to be Basham’s left ankle poking out of his boot and clearly out of place.

Opposition defender Tim Ream rushed over to try and comfort Basham, before the medical team administered oxygen. Play was stopped for over 10 minutes whilst Basham was treated.

It was a reassuring sight to see the Sheffield midfielder wave to the crowd as he was stretchered off, as both home and away fans stood to applaud him.

How Long Will Chris Basham Be Out For?

It is unclear how long Chris Basham will be sidelined for, or just how severe the break is at this moment in time.

The pictures bear a striking resemblance to the fracture dislocation Andre Gomes suffered to his ankle three years ago for Everton, although the Portuguese midfielder managed to make a remarkable recovery in 112 days.

If it is indeed an ankle fracture, the time scale for the initial recovery period can be anywhere from 12-16 weeks, although further tests will be needed to identify what has happened.
