How long is Jonny Evans out for? The Manchester United veteran has stepped in as a surprise starter this season, amid slew of injuries and underwhelming performers, but he now faces a frustrating spell on the sidelines.
How Long is Jonny Evans Out For?
Manchester United‘s latest injury news is but another reason for the mounting pressure on Erik Ten Hag, who will have to navigate a jam-packed winter schedule with limited resources.
Jonny Evans, who has featured in over half of United’s league fixtures up to this point, picked up an unfortunate thigh injury in his first Champions League appearance of the season against Copenhagen.
It leaves Ten Hag with four defensive injuries out of a possible nine. Lisandro Martinez (foot), Luke Shaw (muscle injury) and Tyrell Malacia (knee) are all long-term absentees, while Casemiro is also ruled out with a hamstring injury.
How long Jonny Evans will be out for depends on the effectiveness of his recovery, but he is expected to miss the next three-to-four weeks, which bring us up to a hectic festive period.
Manchester United Predicted XI vs Luton
With Lisandro Martinez and Jonny Evans ruled out through injury, Ten Hag will likely deploy a centre-back pairing of Harry Maguire and Raphael Varane.
The latter has fallen out of favour as of late, with the manager citing ‘tactical reasons’ as to why the World Cup winner has lost his starting berth, following a stellar season throughout the last campaign.
Maguire and Varane have only started alongside each other in two occasions this season. Victor Lindelof is the only other recognised, fully fit centre-back available, so it remains to be seen which pairing is the preferred combination on Saturday.
Manchester United Predicted Line-Up
Predicted Manchester United vs Luton Line-Up: Onana; Wan-Bissaka, Varane, Maguire, Dalot; McTominay, Eriksen; Rashford, Bruno Fernandes, Garnacho; Hojlund
