After a 4/1 winner on Saturday, the SportsLens horse racing NAP of the Day this Sunday, 6 November is Matterhorn. He runs in the 2m maiden hurdle at Sandown Park (2:00) with the Next Best bet, Git Maker, going in the previous race over fences (1:25).
Our experts’ three Sunday selections run at iconic horse racing venues today. See the case in full for them all below:
- 1:25 Sandown – MATTERHORN (NAP) @ 11/8 with 888Sport
- 1:33 Cork – JENNY FLEX (EW) @ 13/2 with 888Sport
- 3:07 Sandown – GIT MAKER (NB) @ 3/1 with 888Sport
Why will horse racing NAP of the Day Matterhorn win?
Reigning champion jumps trainer Paul Nicholls has his team firing on all cylinders now, so MATTERHORN is of obvious interest on his British debut in the 2m maiden hurdle at Sandown races today (1:25). This four-year-old Martaline gelding finished a fine third on his only previous career start in France.
That came in a Listed juvenile hurdle at Auteuil and very much looks like form to follow. But for a final flight blunder, Matterhorn may well have scored. The winner, Paradiso went on to win his next two starts and has been retired to stud. In-behind Matterhorn this day was Gaelic Warrior, a horse that the best betting sites made favourite for the Fred Winter in the spring and who finished a short-head second.
Judged on that, he should be more than capable of winning a maiden hurdle like this. Nicholls’ Ditcheat stable is bang in-form boasting a 38 per cent strike rate over the last fortnight. That includes a treble at Exeter on Friday and a four-timer at Wincanton on Saturday. Matterhorn just had to be our horse racing NAP of the Day for 6 November as a result. A £10 bet on him with 888Sport returns £23.75 at his current odds.
Git Maker NB for successful chase bow at Sandown
Too sound a surface ruled GIT MAKER out of Newbury races on Thursday when put up in this column. He’ll find more suitable conditions at Sandown, however, in the 2m 4f novices’ limited handicap chase for his debut over fences (1:25). Trained by Jamie Snowden, this six-year-old son of Saddler Maker has plenty of Point experience.
As noted in Thursday’s column, the strength of the form and horse racing results between the flags and under Rues posted by Git Maker reads very well. He’s the only one in this line-up who has jumped Point-to-Point fences, which could prove handy. The Snowden stable is also having a decent season and the in-form Gavin Sheehan booked for the ride again.
Git Maker could make up into an even better chaser after winning three of his four hurdles start. His only defeat under Rules did come here but he was in against some seasoned handicappers who all came out and won next time. Git Maker is thus NB to our horse racing NAP of the Day, Matterhorn. At a tasty 3/1 price, a £10 punt on him with 888Sport returns £40 for one to follow over fences this term.
Jenny Flex an each way play on Cork hurdles debut
Powerful Irish owners Robcour send mare JENNY FLEX over hurdles in a 2m 4f contest at Cork this afternoon (1:33). Although no match for the favourite on horse racing betting sites, Walk In The Brise, in a Gowran Park bumper back in February, this five-year-old daughter of Walk In The Park has won here between the flags on the Point-to-Point course.
Jenny Flex bolted up at the Mallow venue by 10 lengths and, although she has twice changed stables since, makes her debut for Gordon Elliott. His Cullentra House team are in fine fettle after farming the two-day meeting at Down Royal with six winners. Following the Elliott yard at Cork has just been profitable over the last five seasons.
Given her new connections, big things are expected of Jenny Flex. She looks a good each way bet for punters who want to take on a short-price favourite. While Jenny Flex is bigger than 5/1, those backing her this way will at least get their stake back if she hits the frame. Below, punters will find further details on a great welcome bonus…
