Lay Of The Day For Horse Racing: Wednesday 28th February 2024
The UK horse racing cards on Wednesday come from Bangor, Wincanton and Kempton (AW).
See below Andy Newton’s lay of the day – a fancied horse that he makes a case on why it might NOT win.
Full results are listed each day further down the page.
Note: Most lays selected will be priced reasonably at 4/1 or shorter. However, if any should drift before the race to a much bigger price and liability, they are probably best avoided.
Andy Newton’s Horse Racing ‘LAY OF THE DAY’ On Wednesday: 2:50pm Bangor – BREEZE OF WIND
The Stuart Coltherd runner BREEZE OF WIND will have many fans today, having won his last three and is clearly a young chaser at the top of his game.
However, the handicapper has raised this grey another 6lbs from his most recent win at Carlisle and is now 18lbs higher than when this winning spree started back in December.
Last time his win was a little more hard-fought – winning by a length – so there are signs the handicapper is starting to catch up with him.
He’s got another big weight here too (11-11) on what will be heavy ground, which he handles, but it’s also interesting connections are reaching for the first-time tongue-tie here – suggesting they saw something last time with his breathing.
The yard has also been a tad quiet over the last few weeks (0-from-12) and despite only having six runners at Bangor are still hunting their first win at the track.
Finally add in that we’ll also have the Venetia Williams (24%) and Greenhall/Guerreio (19%) stables on our side, who both have useful chase strike-rates at the course. They run Montgomery and Dragonfruit.
We’ve more horse racing free tips here – including our daily NAP of the Day and Lucky 15 selections.

What Is Lay Betting On Horse Racing?
In short lay betting is to bet on something NOT to happen.
With the introduction of betting exchanges like Betfair, punters can now bet on a horse or a team NOT to win by effectively becoming a bookmaker.
This can be done by staking against a horse or team on a betting exchange.
For example, if you think a horse won’t win a race and it’s 3.00 (2/1). Then you could lay this horse for £10.
If the horse loses, you will win £10 (less any set commission). Or if the horse wins you will have to pay out £20 (just like a bookmaker would).
See below another example – if you were to oppose Galopin Des Champs at 2.80 for £10.
You can see the liability if the horse wins would be £18. Or if the horse loses you will win £10 (less any commission).
