Tottenham Hotspur lost 2-1 to Aston Villa on Sunday afternoon after Heung-Min Son scored a hat-trick of offside goals in an unfortunate afternoon for Ange Postecoglou‘s side.

Son Scores Hat-Trick Of Offside Goals In 2-1 Defeat To Aston Villa

Unai Emery‘s tricky Villans came from behind to win 2-1 at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. Giovani lo Celso put Spurs 1-0 up thanks to a deflected effort, but goals from Pau Torres and Ollie Watkins scored for the visitors to seal all three points.

The West Midlands side moved up to fourth in the Premier League table with the win, and are quickly becoming one of Europe’s most consistent sides.

However, it could have been a whole different story had Son been able to stay onside the three times he had the ball in the back of the net. The South Korean was heavily involved for his side, so much so that he had three goals ruled out by the linesman’s flag.

There was actually four on the day that were disallowed, with Watkins also seeing one scrubbed off after a VAR check in the first half.

But it was Son who was hit with the most misfortune, when 1-0 up Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg put a lovely ball through for the captain, who finished well before the lineman raised his flag just a few seconds later. Torres then equalised for Villa just before half-time.

Son then had a second ruled out in the second half, after a well-worked team move after Brennan Johnson put it on a plate for him, but the Welshman was in an offside position.

Then, just a couple of minutes later Villa scored through Watkins to go 2-1 up. Despite their determination to find a leveller, it just wasn’t Spurs’ or Son’s day as the forward completed his hat-trick of offside goals with five minutes to go.

That was a third defeat in a row for the North London outfit, but they remain 15/8 to finish in the top four with the best UK football betting sites.

Football World Remembers Terry Venables

It was announced on Sunday that ex-England manager and former Tottenham player Terry Venables had passed away, and a minutes applause was held before the match. He helped Spurs to an FA Cup as a player in 1967 and as manager in 1991 and will be remembered forever for his impact on the English game.

Plenty of tributes were made online for Venables, who also led England to the semi-finals of the 1996 European Championships.
