Heung-Min Son completed a rare Premier League feat in Sunday’s 3-3 epic between Manchester City and Tottenham at the Etihad. The South Korean star was in the thick of the action as he scored, netted an own goal and provided an assist, something of which had only been witnessed five times before in the same top-flight game.
Son’s unique Premier League treble also means he also becomes the first player in Premier League history to score away from home against the reigning champions on four different occasions, having previously done so against Leicester, Chelsea and Liverpool. The Spurs star certainly has a memorable day in the blue half of Manchester and here at SportsLens, we decided to take a look back at the other players who have completed the ‘unique hat-trick.’
Kevin Davies: Aston Villa Vs Bolton (2008)
It’s been 15 years since Kevin Davies scored, netted an own goal and assisted in the same Premier League game. The former striker was playing for Bolton Wanderers at the time as the Trotters got trounced 4-2 by Aston Villa at Villa Park in 2008.
Davies provided the assist for Johan Elmander’s opener but Gabby Agbonlahor soon equalised for the hosts. Davies then turned the ball into his own net to give the home side the lead before Agbonlahor and Ashley Young put Villa into a commanding lead. However, Davies scored a late consolation to complete his unique hat-trick.

Wayne Rooney: Man Utd Vs Stoke (2012)
Former England and Manchester United star Wayne Rooney was the second player to complete the rare Premier League feat. The Red Devils ran out 4-2 winners over Stoke City in October 2012 but the scoreline by no means told the full story.
Rooney netted at the wrong end to give the Potters the lead before hitting a double at the right end, but before he scored his second and United’s fourth, he laid on the assist for Danny Welbeck’s goal in the 46th minute. Robin van Persie netted the other goal before Michael Kightly replied for the visitors.
Gareth Bale: Tottenham Vs Liverpool (2012)
Five-time Champions League winner Gareth Bale is next on the list, completing his rare feat during his Tottenham days in a home game against Liverpool in November 2012. The Welshman assisted Aaron Lennon for the opener at White Hart Lane before curling home a superb free-kick to double Spurs’ lead.
With 78 minutes on the clock, Bale scored an unfortunate own goal when Lennon’s clearance cannoned off his head and into the Tottenham net – but they held on for the win. Bale also got a booking in this fixture, just for good measure!
Jacob Ramsey: Aston Villa Vs Man Utd (2022)
Unai Emery’s first game as Aston Villa got off to the perfect start as they brushed aside Manchester United 3-1 at Villa Park, their first home win over the Red Devils since 1995. The star of the show on the day undoubtedly was Jacob Ramsey, who become the fourth Premier League player to complete the rare feat.
The attacking midfielder provided the assist for Leon Bailey’s opener before Lucas Digne put Villa 2-0 up. Ramsey then gave United a glimmer of hope by scoring an own goal on the stroke of half-time but four minutes into the second half, he netted at the right end to restore Villa’s two-goal lead.

Jack Harrison: Leeds Vs Brighton (2023)
You only have to go back to March to find the player who accomplished the rare Premier League feat before Heung-Min Son did so against Manchester City. Struggling Leeds United held Brighton to a 2-2 draw at Elland Road with Jack Harrison in the thick of the action for the home side.
Alexis Mac Allister opened the scoring for the Seagulls before Patrick Bamford levelled proceedings before the break, assisted by Harrison. The Leeds man then stole the show after netting an own goal before firing home a stunning equaliser to give the Whites a share of the spoils.
Heung-Min Son: Man City Vs Tottenham (2023)
The sixth and final entry on the rare Premier League feat list is Tottenham star Heung-Min Son. The South Korean even found the funny side of netting his own goal against Manchester City as the sides played out an epic 3-3 draw at the Etihad.
Son burst through to give Spurs the lead before netting in his own goal just a matter of minutes later. Phil Foden then gave the champions the lead before Giovani Lo Celso – assisted by Son – brought Spurs back in to the game on the 69th minute. Jack Grealish put City ahead for the second time before Dejan Kulusevski made it 3-3 in the last minute.
