Last year’s Aintree Grand National winner, Noble Yeats, was meant to run at Lingfield on Sunday, but a vaccination mix-up for the Irish-based 8 year-old forced him to miss that engagement. Trainer, Emmet Mullins is now eyeing up the Cotswold Chase on 28th January, before heading to the Cheltenham Gold Cup.

Noble Yeats to Miss Lingfield On Sunday Due To Vaccination Mix-up

Lingfield racegoers were meant to be having a treat on Sunday with the presence of last year’s Grand National winner – Noble Yeats – an intended runner in the Fleur De Lys Chase at the Surrey venue as connections ramp-up his preparation ahead of the Cheltenham Festival.

However, the Irish-based National winner had an issue with his vaccination record not being up to date with the rules of racing in England and the Lingfield option had to be shelved.

Lingfield’s three-day Winter Million Festival has already suffered a blow with the opening day called off due to a frozen track. The AW card on Saturday is expected to be fine, but with the action back on the turf on Sunday, then further inspections will be needed to see if they can race.

Cotwold Chase On Festival Trials Day Now On The Agenda

So, with Lingfield no longer an option the connections on Noble Yeats were checking the racing calendar for other possible targets before the Cheltenham Gold Cup second favourite (@ 7/1 with BetUK) heads to Prestbury Park on Friday 17th March.

The Denman Chase, at Newbury on February 1th, would be an option, but there is stronger vibes circulating that the Cotswold Chase, which is also run at Cheltenham, would suit better.

Trainer Emmet Mullins told the Racing Post on Wednesday “Everything is an option at the moment, I’d prefer to give him a run before Cheltenham but I’ve no plan at the moment other than to go to the gallop tomorrow morning.”

The Cotswold Chase, which forms part of Festival Trials Day, will be run on Saturday 28th January and if heading there and successful, Noble Yeats will be looking to become the first horse to win the race and follow-up in the same season since Looks Like Trouble in 2000.

Other possible Cotswold Chase runners at this stage could be Betfair Chase winner Protektorat, plus the King George Chase winner Bravemansgame.

Noble Yeats Impressive Last Time in Many Clouds Chase

Noble Yeats defied the stats in the Grand National last April to become the first 7 year-old winner of the race since 1940 and will be looking to join the likes of Red Rum and Tiger Roll as back-to-back winners of the world’s greatest steeplechase – he’s the current 2023 Grand National favourite @ 10/1 with BetUK.

The Emmet Mullins runner also returned this season with an easy win in the Many Clouds Chase at Aintree on 3rd December (watch below) – showing a nice turn-of-foot that day to suggest there’s a fair bit more to come from this improving 8 year-old.
