The Englishman took the reigns at Chelsea in September last year, after a successful spell with Premier League high-flyers, Brighton. The Blues reportedly paid over £20m to buy him out of his contract with the Seagulls and bring him to the capital immediately.

Life at one of Europe’s most elite clubs was not easy for the former Brighton boss and Chelsea found themselves in tenth place after 25 matches.

However, the Blues did find success in the Champions League under Potter, progressing to the quarter finals with a superb comeback victory over Borussia Dortmund. The 2021 champions will face the current holders, Real Madrid, in what is expected to be a classic European bout.

Unfortunately for the young manager, his time at the club came to and end this weekend after A 2-0 loss at home to Aston Villa. This was enough to make Todd Boehly dismiss the 45-year-old – ending his reign after just six months.

Rumours of an immediate return to management started to circulate, as Leicester City are now managerless following Brendan Rodgers’ departure. However, reports say that Potter has turned down the opportunity to have a break from football.

One club that may be looking for a new manager in the summer is West Ham, as murmurs about a David Moyes sacking have begun. The Hammers are 15th in he table and are level on points with Bournemouth who take up the last spot in the relegation zone.

The Scotsman is out of contract in 2025 which may make the termination of his deal difficult, but if the Hammers are unsuccessful in the Europa Conference League then it may be the end of Moyes’ spell in east London.
