This January could see average temperatures in the Scottish city hit an all-time low, as Glasgow’s coldest weather on record betting odds show.
Glasgow is no stranger to frosty weather, with average temperatures in January from 1-5°C.
The coldest temperature ever recorded in the Glasgow region happened back in 1979. On January 13, in the village of Carnwarth in Lanarkshire, the thermometer dropped to -24.6°C.
Forecasts for the rest of January 2024 are much warmer, however. There are expected highs of 12°C on 25 January, with lows of 3°C on Sunday 28.
But with the first half of the month experiencing some icy spells, there’s still a chance we could see a record January recorded.
As a result, we at SportsLens have taken a look at the latest betting odds for Glasgow’s coldest weather on record.
Glasgow Coldest Weather On Record Betting Odds
Coldest January since records began: 9/2
Coldest Year since records began: 14/1
The lowest temperature in Glasgow this month was -9°C, reached overnight on 17 and 18 January.
At 9/2, the latest cold weather betting odds give a reasonable chance of January 2024 being the coldest January in Glasgow since records began.
But the likelihood of 2024 being the coldest ever year in Glasgow’s history is far lower. With global temperatures rising each year, it seems less and less common for cold weather records to be broken.
Yet there are still anomalies, and at 14/1, it’s not impossible that this could be Glasgow’s coldest ever year. For those who have been wrapped up warm in recent weeks, it certainly seems plausible.
The Met Office predicts Glasgow temperatures won’t be quite so frosty in the coming days, though. Their forecast shows a dreary outlook, with clouds and showers throughout the rest of the week.
Residents should expect damp conditions well into February. At present, rain is shown every day from Saturday 27 January until 6 February, as far ahead as the forecast goes.
