Following news of Paul Pogba’s 4-year ban from football for doping offences, Gary Lineker has expressed concern there could be more offences going on behind closed doors.
Paul Pogba 4-Year Ban For Doping
After testing positive for abnormal levels of testosterone back in August, it was announced this week that former Manchester United midfielder Paul Pogba would be banned from football for 4-years.
At the age of 30, the World Cup winner would not return to football until after his 34th birthday, which means he could have played his last game at the top level.
On his ban, Pogba said in a statement: “I am sad, shocked and heartbroken that everything I have built in my professional playing career has been taken away from me.
“When I am free of legal restrictions the full story will become clear, but I have never knowingly or deliberately taken any supplements that violate anti-doping regulations.

Gary Lineker On Doping In Football
Following the announcement of Paul Pogba’s ban, Gary Lineker has expressed his concerns that doping could be rife throughout not only football but sport in general.
Speaking on The Rest is Football podcast with co-hosts Micah Richards and Alan Shearer, Lineker said: “I wonder a little bit generally. I’ve always had a slight fear in recent years about possible performance-enhancing drugs in football.
“There are a lot of players now playing a lot longer than they used to.
“And I know things have improved with medical situations and stuff but it’s in most other sports and when you consider the amount of money in football, if you can perform a little bit better, with the vast sums you could get the temptations must be there.
“I suspect that Pogba is not the only player to do this but it is a worry. I think it is for all sports.”
