Former Aston Villa striker and talkSPORT pundit Gabby Agbonlahor has told Arsenal to ‘stop moaning’ after they’ve officially held talks with PGMOL over a certain issue.
Why did Arsenal meet with PGMOL?
Arsenal are reportedly unhappy with the treatment of Bukayo Saka. They believe he gets ‘rough treatment’ from opposition players and they want to be assured that referees will do their best to protect Saka.
In 2023, Saka was the third-most fouled player in the Premier League. Only Newcastle’s Bruno Guimaraes and Crystal Palace’s Jordan Ayew beat him.
There’s no doubt that Saka is one of Arsenal’s most important players with 19 G/A (Goals and assists) already this season. He’s on track to beat his 26 G/A from last season which shows the progression from the 22-year-old.
Protecting Saka will be a top priority for Mikel Arteta in order to challenge for the title once again this year.
What has Agbonlahor said about Arsenal’s PGMOL complaints?
On talkSport, Agbonlahor has criticised Arsenal for their complaints and calls for them to ‘shut up and stop moaning’. He argued it’s just a part of a football and it happens to every top player.
When discussing the matter he said: “Back in your day, you used to get fouled every time you got the ball. Look at the clips of Maradona, he used to get two-footed in the chest!
“Two-footed in the chest, no yellow card, play on. Messi – kicked, kicked, kicked – he just gets up, takes a quick free-kick and gets on with it.
“Honestly, just stop moaning. Get on with your game. Yes, Saka might get fouled a lot but that’s because he’s a top player and people have got to stop you.
“I got kicked but I just got on with it. If you weren’t a good player you wouldn’t be getting fouled so much. Managers will say to take it in turns to get a yellow card to stop that player. I’m sure they do that with top, top players.
“So Arsenal, get on with it. Arteta and whoever is moaning, stop moaning.”
What’s next for Arsenal?
The Gunners will look to get back on their horse after suffering back-to-back defeats that has seen them go from league leaders to fourth place.
The FA Cup is usually a good distraction from league football but Arsenal are hosting the new league leaders Liverpool in what promises to be a mouth-watering affair.
