Gabriel Agbonlahor believes Manchester United midfielder Casemiro should’ve been arrested for ‘strangling’ Crystal Palace’s Will Hughes.

After a short VAR check at Old Trafford following a scuffle between the two sides, Casemiro was shown a straight red card by referee Andre Marriner for appearing to grab a hold of Will Hughes’ neck and throat.

Manchester United won 2-1 against Palace thanks to goals from Bruno Fernandes and Marcus Rashford despite finishing the game with ten men.

TalkSPORT pundit Gabby Agbonlahor said the Brazilian international should’ve been arrested for ‘strangling’ Hughes and setting a bad example for children watching at home.

“Casemiro thought he was Brock Lesnar in the UFC. The way he was strangling Will Hughes, he should be arrested for that.

“There’s kids watching that game later on Match of the Day and seeing Casemiro strangling an opponent. This isn’t ice hockey in America where they have a scrap during the game.

“This is football, we don’t want to see that and Casemiro needs to be disciplined by Manchester United.”

Erik ten Hag critical of ‘inconsistent refereeing’ after red card decision

Red Devils manager Erik ten Hag criticised the Premier League’s ‘inconsistent refereeing’ but acknowledged that Casemiro ‘crossed the line’.

“Casemiro crossed the line; you saw that. However, I’m unhappy with the inconsistent refereeing; not only this game but also in Palace. They elbowed [Lisandro] Martinez and last week with [Christian] Eriksen.

“A lot of other players crossed the line, including some Crystal Palace players. VAR didn’t intervene with them.”

The scuffle stemmed from Jeffrey Schlupp pushing Antony into the advertising board and taunting the Brazilian winger, standing over him as he lay on the ground.

Ten Hag agreed that the United players reacted accordingly and should be there to support their teammate.

“I think you have to do it, you have to protect each other but we want to keep standards and values high. We can’t cross lines but we have to stick together and, yes, we have to stand up for each other.”

Manchester United’s title odds have stayed the same after Saturday’s hard-fought victory at 33/1, with Premier League betting sites preferring Manchester City and Arsenal’s chances at the crown.
