French Open Third Round Tip 1

Pegula to Win 2-0

2022 was Jessica Pegula’s most successful run at grand slams after reaching the quarter-final at the US, French and Australian Open, before going on to repeat the same feat in Melbourne at the beginning of this year.

The American enters as one of the best outsiders with Rybakina, Sabalenka and reigning champion Swiatek all dominating on the tour so far, but number three seed Pegula is hoping to emulate her relative success in doubles with a new career best here.

She goes toe-to-toe with Elise Mertens in the third round, and should be more rested than the Belgian after a second round walkover with opponent Camila Giorgi, who was forced to retire through injury.

Add to that a taxing second set tiebreak win for Mertens in her victory over Camila Osorio, it appears Pegula is better positioned for a straight set win here.

French Open Third Round Tip 2

Rublev to Win and Both Players to Win a Set

Once thought to be one of the successors to tennis‘ ‘big three,’ Andrey Rublev’s agonising record so far at grand slams leaves a lot to be desired.

The Russian has enjoyed huge amounts of success as a 13-time ATP Tour winner, including a Masters 1000 title at Monte Carlo this year, but his underwhelming performances at majors weighs heavy.

The world number six has lost seven grand slam quarter-finals, but his recent title win on clay in Monaco is perhaps the best possible preparation he could have under his belt.

He has so far progressed unscathed against Laslo Djere and Corentin Mouret in the opening two rounds, but did drop a set in each however. 48th-ranked Italian Lorenzo Sonego is up next for the 25-year-old, and while we expect him to secure safe passage to the next round, both players should pick up at least one set each here.

French Open Third Round Tip 3

Tsitsipas to Win in Straight Sets

Stefanos Tsitsipas continued his title charge in the second round and enters the third with a 29-8 record on the season.

The 2021 finalist is still chasing his first grand slam, but has so far displayed a maturity and calmness that has often been lacking in his game.

Particularly in his second round match against Carballes Baena, he appeared to enjoy himself as the ball moved with ferocity and bounce as the sun set the clay ablaze, pushing the Spaniard deep behind his service line.

Next up is 95th-ranked Argentine Diego Schwartzman, who has endured a stuttering season so far this year. He registered a solid comeback in the first round before straight set victory against Nuno Borges last time out, but recent Australian Open finalist Tsitsipas should have far too much firepower here.
