The usual suspects find themselves at the top of the tree after two matches, but Fantasy managers are still chopping and changing their teams after some notable under-performers in the second round. See below as we guide you through some of our FPL gameweek 3 tips.
FPL Gameweek 3 Tips
Bruno Fernandes – Manchester United (£8.5m)
Manchester United have been hugely underwhelming after two games, barely scraping three points against Wolves before being suffocated by Tottenham away from home last time out.
In particular, the midfield appears to be disjointed and easily overrun, but Bruno Fernandes has remained fairly solid in the transition and this next fixture represents the perfect opportunity for United to rectify their stuttering start.
Their opponents Nottingham Forest were the worst team away from home last season, picking up just one win and eight points from a possible 57. This form carried over into gameweek 1, where they fell defeat against Arsenal.
As for our tip, Fernandes has registered 1.05 in expected assists so far, and he is more than likely to be on penalty and free-kick duty. There will be far more attacking impetus from United – there is no way Ten Hag will allow them to be pedestrian again, and Fernandes should embody that as his on-field leader.
Solly March – Brighton (£6.5m)
As a general rule of thumb, we prefer to steer away from reactive transfers, but Solly March’s four-minute second-half blitz in gameweek 2 is hard to ignore.
Kaoru Mitoma will of course get the plaudits for his outstanding solo effort, but Solly March terrorised the Wolves defence in the second-half, scoring a brace from an xG of 1.43.
He has three goals under his belt in two games, and the Seagulls look particularly terrifying having netted eight goals thus far.
They return to the south coast to face West Ham for gameweek 3, who lost 13 of their 19 games away from home last term.
Rico Henry – Brentford (£4.8m)
Rico Henry’s price has already risen as fans flock to get him in for gameweek 3 – his ownership is now above 5% for the first time this season.
Nevertheless, he still represents an excellent budget pick if you are strapped for cash. Brentford host a Crystal Palace side this weekend who struggled to break through ten-man Arsenal on Monday.
The Eagles only managed 19 goals in as many games away from south London last year, and the Bees have looked very solid in their opening matches, keeping a clean sheet against Fulham in gameweek 2.
Henry also offers an intriguing offensive threat, ranking second for expected assists so far, which could well mean bonus points should he continue to play high this weekend.
Nicolas Jackson – Chelsea (£7m)
Chelsea’s Friday night meeting with Luton is perhaps the best opportunity for the Blues to get back on track, having fell to a calamitous defeat away at West Ham last time out.
Nicolas Jackson will look to target what appeared to be a vulnerable Luton defence that was dismantled by Brighton in gameweek.
Although he is yet to get off the mark in the Premier League, Jackson has not been short on chances, hitting six shots all inside the area across his two appearances.
