Ex-Liverpool and England striker Daniel Sturridge has been issued an arrest warrant after failing to appear in a Los Angeles court over money that he allegedly owes to a man that found his missing dog in 2019.

The Daily Mail are reporting that an arrest warrant has been issued for former Liverpool and England forward Daniel Sturridge after he failed to appear in court over a dispute where he allegedly owes a man money.

Back in July 2019, Sturridge’s Pomeranian dog was stolen from his Los Angeles home, but after issuing a public plea where he offered a $30,000 reward for the pooch’s safe return – Foster Washington, an American rapper that goes by ‘Killa Fame’, took credit for reuniting the 34-year-old with his pet.

Washington claims that he never received the reward though, which led to him launching a civil lawsuit against Sturridge – to which the 26-time England international was ordered by a Los Angeles court to pay the full $30,000.

Sturridge, who has been a Sky Sports pundit as of late, did not attend the hearing however, and court documents have revealed that he has been served with a bench warrant – a summons that is issued by a judge in order to facilitate an arrest and bring the defendant before the court.

A new date for the hearing has been set for November 30 later this year.

Washington has spent over $10,000 on legal fees, and told Mail Sport that the money could change his family’s life.

“For me, it’s a point of principle. He promised me the money. It’s a substantial amount of money that could change my family’s life.

“He thinks he is above the law. He thinks because he’s rich he doesn’t have to respond to what’s going on. That’s why I had to have the judge issue a warrant so he has to pay the money.”

Thomas Scully, Washington’s lawyer for the case, continued: “A lot of people just decide to ignore lawsuits for whatever reason and a lot of times they get away with it because they don’t have any money.

“But it doesn’t seem that Daniel Sturridge should get away with it. He has the money to pay and he has the money to hire a lawyer. He just doesn’t feel like it.

“He probably doesn’t feel like he is beholden to California courts and so he is probably just going to continue ignoring it.

“But I have some other tools in the Californian civil procedure and I am going to keep on trying to pursue with that. This isn’t the end of the story. I am certainly not giving up yet.”
