Former Liverpool teammate Fabinho has given his opinion on whether Mohamed Salah will leave Merseyside to join him at Al-Ittihad.

Will Salah leave Liverpool?

Salah was heavily linked to join Al-Ittihad in the summer and he even agreed to join the Saudi Pro League side but Liverpool were refusing to sell him. Al-Ittihad were even willing to give Liverpool a deal worth beyond £150m.

Liverpool were unable to find a suitable replacement in the time and decided not to trade Salah in for mega money. That decision has done Liverpool the world of good as he has 22 G/A already this season. He scored his 14th goal of the season against Crystal Palace which was also his 200th goal for Liverpool.

The Reds are current league leaders and they’ll be hoping to jump into 2024 still top after the horrendous season they had last time round.

Fabinho’s verdict

Fabinho left Liverpool after five years at the club to go and join Al-Ittihad in the summer. Within those five years, Fabinho won everything with Liverpool including the Premier League, Champions League and FA Cup.

Al-Ittihad are preparing for the FIFA Club World Cup in which Manchester City will be entering next week after winning the Super Cup.

Fabinho will be hoping to be a two-time winner of the trophy after lifting in with Liverpool in 2019. Speaking on his former teammate Salah’s potential move; the Brazilian said:

“At this moment Mo Salah is happy at Liverpool. He’s scoring goals every game and he has been their best player. I’m very happy for Mo.

“This season he will stay at Liverpool so I wish him all the best and hope he keeps scoring goals and winning trophies with Liverpool.”

Title contenders

Al-Ittihad who won the Saudi Pro League for the 9th time last season are struggling this season in 5th. Fabinho revealed he’s keeping a close eye on Liverpool’s performances this season and is delighted his former teammates are leading the title race.

He said: “I’m really happy for the boys. “At the moment they are top of the league, of course there is still much to play in the Premier League and there are some clubs next to them like Arsenal, Man City, even Aston Villa, they are doing very well this season.

“So there is much to play in the competition, but it is always good to be at the top. You always have to try to be top of the league and winning games and Liverpool are doing this now.

“They are finding a way to win and finding goals after the 90 minutes, and this is really good. It shows their mentality and shows how good they are.

“They are really focussed on trying to win the championship.”

What’s next for Liverpool?

Liverpool sign off on 2023 with six games left to play. This includes the likes of Manchester United, Arsenal and a Carabao Cup quarter-final against West Ham. Liverpool still have a Europa League match left to play as well but they’re already guaranteed top spot in their group.
