Former Liverpool Player Reveals Ten Hag Replacement

Manchester United’s Erik ten Hag is rumoured to depart at the end of the season, and Jason McAteer has reportedly revealed his replacement based on a conversation with a player from the United squad.

A current Manchester United player has reportedly suggested a successor for Erik ten Hag, with former Liverpool midfielder Jason McAteer putting forward the idea that England manager Gareth Southgate could be a potential candidate for the job.

McAteer, without revealing the player’s name, suggested that there’s a consensus within the squad that Ten Hag might not stay on as manager beyond this season.

The Dutch manager has faced difficulties in his second season at the helm, and it seems likely that this season will conclude with a lower performance compared to last year’s third-place finish.

Furthermore, Manchester United’s hopes for European football are at risk following a defeat to Arsenal at home. Should they suffer a defeat against Newcastle in their next match, they would need to win against Manchester City in the FA Cup final to qualify for European competition next season.

Former Liverpool Player Reveals Conversation With Manchester United Star

While there’s no official announcement expected until after the FA Cup final regarding his future, McAteer has hinted, based on discussions with a United player, that a managerial change might be looming.

McAteer delved into the specifics during his segment on beIN Sports, recalling the details of his interaction: “He plays for Man United, and I had a conversation with him on Friday, I bumped into him because I live just outside the area,”

“We got into conversation, great lad, and I asked him (about the) end of the season and what he thought, and he gave me no inclination that the manager was there to stay.”

When pressed by host Richard Keys, McAteer hinted that Southgate was the name that sparked a positive response from the player.

Gareth Southgate Responds To Recent Links With United Job

Southgate has addressed the recent links to the United job, stating that any speculation about his future won’t distract him ahead of Euro 2024.

The England boss said: “Well, for me, it’s not an issue and never has been,”

“I have to deliver a successful tournament for England, and there’s enough work involved in that. I think everybody would expect that’s where my focus should be.”

Southgate further emphasised that his complete attention is on England, stating, “For me, it [Euro 2024] is a brilliant opportunity. We’re looking forward to the tournament. My focus is on how do we go a step further than we went in the last Euros.”
