February 2024 has been a record breaking month for the Premier League, as the highest amount of goals were recorded per match.
All this coming in the shortest month of the year (leap year included).

This climax meant February 2024 stepped into unprecedented territory, as the average goals per match reached a record high of 3.8.
2023-24 has seen a huge increase of goals, as the overall average for goals per game sits at 3.25 (as of GW26) – which is the most for a single season in England’s top-flight.
Last season, the average amount of goals per game reached a high of 2.85, which is considerably lower than this recent record in February 2024.
To find a higher season average, Premier League supporters would need to travel back to 1964-65, when it hit an average of 3.34.
However, despite this new title, February 2024 is not the LEADING month for goals scored in the Premier League, as this came in December 2018 with 209 goals in 69 matches (ave 3.03 per game).
During the month of February 2024 though, it was Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal who can lay claim to helping them get this record. The Gunners were the highest-scoring side in the Premier League – bagging 20 goals, which is also a club record.

Liverpool are the highest scoring team so far this season, scoring 63 goals in England’s top division – but this total still falls short of the all-time record held by Manchester City (106 goals) during their 2017/18 campaign.
At present, Jurgen Klopp’s side are averaging 2.42 goals per game in the league, which if maintained will see their season end on 94 goals in the English top-flight.
In contrast, Sheffield United could break a record of their own this season, as the Blades are on track to concede the most goals in Premier League history.
Chris Wilder’s side have seen 66 goals scored against them this season, averaging a total of 2.54 goals conceded per match.
Swindon are the current holders of this unwanted record, letting in 100 goals during 93-94 and Sheffield United will cut it fine as if their average continues, they will finish on 94 goals conceded.
Why Are There More Goals In The Premier League This Season?
A huge reason for their being more goals in the Premier League this season is down to the increased additional time, as 78 goals have been scored in second-half added time.
With 122 matches still to play, this number is set to break the record for added time goals – which currently sits at 85 goals (2018-19 and 2021-22).
