Legendary striker Luis Suarez has revealed how a fat jibe from Lionel Messi helped form the formidable ‘MSN’ at Barcelona.

Luis Suarez, Lionel Messi and Neymar spent 3 years together at Barcelona before Neymar’s controversial big-money move to French giants PSG.

In that time the trio became a formidable team, dubbed ‘MSN’, and were the driving force behind Barcelona’s most successful period since Pep Guardiola’s reign over a decade ago, even winning the Champions League.

How Messi Formed ‘MSN’ At Barcelona

But how did the infamous ‘MSN’ come into being? Luis Suarez has been discussing how the trio formed.

In an interview with Clank!, Suarez explained the origins of ‘MSN’, saying: “Luis Enrique wanted Messi to play as a false nine because he was used to that position and Neymar and I were on the flanks, but he saw that it didn’t work. Messi told me, ‘Oh fat man, stay in the nine position, and I’ll open the pitch for you on the right side.’

“And that’s the start of the MSN.”

The game in question dates all the way back to 2014, a Champions League fixture against Ajax. Barcelona won the game 2-0 on the night with Lionel Messi scoring both goals.

Sadly all good things must come to an end, with all three of ‘MSN’ going their separate ways. Messi joined Neymar at PSG, while Luis Suarez went on to win a La Liga title at Atletico Madrid.

It now looks as if football fans may never see any of the trio play in European football again, with Neymar now playing his football in Saudi Arabia for Al-Hilal and Messi playing for David Beckham’s Inter Miami.

However, for fans desperate to see an ‘MSN’ reunion, you could see two-thirds of the trio reunite at Inter Miami, if Luis Suarez chooses to join his old Barcelona teammates Lionel Messi, Sergio Busquets and Jordi Alba at the club.
