FA To Investigate Suspicious Betting Patterns In Arsenal vs Oxford Match

The FA announced today that they would be further investigating allegations of suspicious betting patterns, after Ciaron Brown’s booking for Oxford against Arsenal in the cup tie.

Arsenal cruised to victory on Monday night, with a brace from Eddie Nketiah and a powerful header from Mohammed Elneny enough to confirm Arsenal’s place in the fourth round of the FA Cup.

Just days after Arsenal qualified for the next round, serious accusations have come to light that Ciaron Brown of Oxford United was purposefully booked against the Gunners following a foul on Bukayo Saka early in the second half.

Brown was booked after throwing Saka to the floor, with the Oxford player refusing to give the ball back to Arsenal and instead throwing it away which earned the player a caution.

The Daily Mail have reported that the FA has a ‘dossier of evidence regarding supposed corruption’ in the game, including phone messages before kick off that claim Brown would be booked during the game in a betting scam.

One bookmaker is reporting that they lost £1,600 on a single bet on Brown to be booked at a price of 8/1 shortly before the game, as one lucky punter stuck nearly £200 on the Oxford player to receive a yellow.

Despite the suspicious yellow card that will be further investigated, Arsenal are still through to the fourth round of the FA Cup where they will face Manchester City in what could be one of the ties of the round. See the full FA Cup Fourth round draw below.
