Arsenal and Oxford Have Met Just Nine Times Before
Oxford and Arsenal have only played each other 9 times in their histories in all competitions and it’s not as one-sided as you might think. Yes, Arsenal have the upper hand with four wins, but Oxford has also recorded three draws and two wins over the years.
Three Of The Last Five Head-to-Heads Finished 0-0
However, the last of those Oxford victories came back in 1986 in the Old First Division with a 3-0 win. That said, since then the U’s have managed to hold Arsenal to three 0-0 draws in their last five head-to-heads, so you might be tempted in by the 19/1 on offer with Midnite on there being no goals scored (0-0) in this evening’s FA Cup Third Round clash.
As well as that bunch of 0-0 draws, in recent meetings between Oxford and Arsenal, we’ve also seen two of the last three head-to-heads finish 2-0 to Arsenal – this can be backed @ 27/5 with Midnite.
But, Who Was The Last Arsenal Player To Score Against Oxford?
Okay, the last scorer for Arsenal when they played Oxford was Scott McNiven – an Oxford player – as he netted an own goal in Arsenal’s 2-0 FA Cup win over the U’s back in January 2003, which was the last time the sides met.
However, in that same game it was Arsenal legend Dennis Bergkamp that got the Gunners on their way to that 2-0 win, so technically the former Dutch striker, who bagged 12 FA Cup goals, was the last Arsenal player to score a goal against Oxford.
If you’re in the pub tonight to watch the FA Cup live game, then impress your pals with this bit of Oxford vs Arsenal trivia!

Arsenal Also Went All The Way In 2003
After that 2-0 home win over Oxford in the FA Cup Third Round the 14-time FA Cup winners, Arsenal, went all the way to win the famous English cup competition that season.
After the Oxford game, Arsenal beat non-league Farnborough Town 5-1 despite going one-nil down after an own goal by Sol Campbell.
The opposition got harder in the 5th Round as they faced Manchester United away, but saw them off 2-0 with Edu and Sylvain Wiltord scoring.
Chelsea were next up in the 6th Round in 2003 and after a 2-2 home draw the match went to a replay at Stamford Bridge which Arsenal won 3-1 with goals from John Terry (og), Lauren and Wiltord.
The FA Cup 2003 semi-final saw Arsenal take on Sheffield United and after a cagey clash the Gunners got the job done 1-0 thanks to a Freddie Ljungberg goal.
Arsenal Beat Southampton 1-0 in the 2003 FA Cup Final
Southampton were waiting for Arsenal in the 2003 FA Cup Final that year, and as per the familiar Arsenal chant “1-0 to the Arsenal” that’s exactly what happened again here thanks to a Robert Pires goal in the first half.
The 2003 FA Cup final was also the first at the Millennium Stadium in Cardiff that was played under the retractable roof after a wet and windy day.
That success in 2003 was Arsenal’s 9th FA Cup win at the time and have since gone onto win another five (2005, 2014, 2015, 2017 and 2020) to become the FA Cup all-time winners (14).

Oxford vs Arsenal Match Odds
Oxford vs Arsenal Betting Tip For FA Cup Third Round Match
Oxford United are sitting in 15th place in League One – which is 59 places behind Arsenal, who are propping up the Premier League at present. That said, the FA Cup can often rip up the form book and with home advantage Oxford come into the match tonight with a big support behind them and you never know, despite the Gunners being as short at 4/25 with Midnite in the match betting.
Oxford can be backed @ 11/1 with Midnite for the upset, with 6/1 on the draw.
The U’s head into the match having won only one of their last 5 games but will be boosted knowing their home form has been much stronger this season – they’ve tasted defeat in only one of their last six matches at the Kassam Stadium.
The Winners Will Face Manchester City
However, this is Arsenal they take on this evening – a team that are full of confidence and even though boss Mikel Arteta may opt on a few team changes you feel even the Arsenal second team will be too strong for the League One outfit.
The carrot for the winners is an away trip to Manchester City in the next round, so there’s a lot at stake for both sides. But it’s hard to see past a win for the Gunners which will set up the massive all-Premier League Fourth Round clash in the Fourth Round.
Oxford and Arsenal Play For Just The Tenth Time
The sides have only played each other 9 times overall, but just twice in the FA Cup – with Arsenal winning both. The last time they played was in this event too – with the Gunners winning 2-0 with former Arsenal legend Dennis Bergkamp on the scoresheet.
Oxford also haven’t found the back of the net in their last five games now against Arsenal and with the Gunners expected to make life difficult for the home side the 77/100 @ Midnite on both teams NOT scoring in the match (ie one (or both) of the sides to not score) looks a solid option.
Oxford vs Arsenal BEST BET: BOTH TEAMS TO SCORE ‘NO’@ 77/100 with Midnite
