Less than a week remains until the transfer window comes to an end, and although the vast majority of world class free agents who were out of contract this summer have been snapped up, there are still plenty of big names left without a team. We run through some of the best free agents still up for grabs.

Best Free Agents and Who Could Sign Them

David De Gea

A bizarre contract renewal stand-off ensued at the end of last season between Manchester United and one of their most loyal servants, David De Gea.

After agreeing to a significant pay cut, United then back-tracked on their initial proposal to offer him even less, all the while attacking the market to bring in new number one Andre Onana from Inter.

A sad and bitter end to a 12-year career in Manchester saw him head to the exit with very little fanfare.

Bayern Munich appeared to be best positioned to pick the Spaniard up on a free transfer but a move never materialised, while interest from Saudi Arabia has show little signs of progressing.

Sergio Ramos

PSG’s switch from superstar shopping to nurturing young talent has seen the French champions let a number of names go, including Sergio Ramos.

The former Real Madrid legend has attracted interest from the usual suspects in Saudi Arabia, while several clubs on Turkey are keen on bringing a global name to the Super Lig.

Jesse Lingard

Jesse Lingard’s career appeared to have experienced a revival during a loan at West Ham two years ago, but the decision to join newly-promoted Nottingham Forest last season proved fairly disastrous.

It has left the 30-year-old without a club with Forest deeming him, among a slew of names, surplus to requirements in order to cut the wage bill.

West Ham have allowed Lingard to train at their facilities in recent weeks, but David Moyes did little to suggest a move back to east London is on the cards when questioned by the media.

Axel Tuanzebe

A succession of failed loans over the past five years has seen Manchester United finally release a once-promising youth product.

Most recently Axel Tuanzebe spent the season at Stoke City last term, featuring just four times for the Potters.

There have been reports that newly-promoted Luton have handed the 25-year-old a top-flight lifeline, but he remains on a trial period.
