Sportslens can exclusively reveal that main sponsor Paddy Power will tone down their celebrations during the World Darts Championship final due to the age of teenage sensation Luke Littler.
Paddy Power To Tone Down World Darts Championship Final Celebrations
It’s fair to say that main sponsors of the tournament Paddy Power have done a fantastic job at promoting the World Darts Championship with their social media drive among other campaigns on the side.
This year’s edition of the tournament has been one of the best and most entertaining in recent times and we are now treated to a final between two darting phenomenons in Luke Littler and Luke Humphries.
However, Paddy Power will have to tone down its celebrations for the final, with 16-year-old Littler at the face of things with his incredible story and meteoric rise.
He has become the youngest player to ever reach the last-two of the competition, with the next youngest being Michael van Gerwen back in 2014 at the age of 24.
Due to Littler being under the age of 18, Paddy Power will have no representatives on stage to hand over prizes, regardless of whether the teenager goes on to win or not.
The trophy will not feature any Paddy Power logos and any winning cheques will instead be handed over by a member of the PDC.
The gambling giant will also have to refrain from posting any imagery or video content of Littler due to regulatory restraints.
Paddy Power Close In On £900k Donation To Prostate Cancer UK
At the start of the tournament, the popular bookmaker announced that they would donate £1000 to Prostate Cancer UK for every 180 scored at the World Darts Championship (so three treble 20s in one visit).
Fast-forward over two weeks of action and there has been 878 180s hit so far, with the two finalists Littler and Humphries both leading the charts with 50-a-piece. That number is expected to increase to at least 900, with 22 more needed between two of the most prolific maximum hitters in the tournament.
Also, to celebrate the player who hits the most 180s, Paddy Power have commissioned a giant “Ballon D’art” trophy for the winner, so whoever hits more in the final will take home the award.
In a sensational charitable move, Paddy Power look to be donating at least £900k to Prostate Cancer UK by the end of the final on Wednesday between Littler and Humphries.
