Everton’s search for a Premier League victory continued this afternoon, as the Toffee’s put in an underwhelming performance and were beaten 1-0 by Wolverhampton Wanderers.

Match Events

Both sides came into the match looking for their first points of the season, with Wolves losing to Manchester United and Brighton in their opening two fixtures.

Everton lost to Fulham and Aston Villa, whilst also failing to find the net in either of their opening matches. Sean Dyche’s side started the match well however, as Arnaut Danjuma came close.

Wolves had chances of their own, as midfielder Mario Lemina saw his efforts saved by Everton’s reliable shot-stopper, Jordan Pickford.

Neither side could break the deadlock in the opening 45 minutes and went into the break level. Wolves made an attacking substitution for the second half, as Hwang Hee-Chan came on for Rayan Ait-Nouri.

However, it was Everton who started the half stronger and Danjuma came close once again, but his effort was saved by Jose Sa.

The deadlock was finally broken in the 87th minute, as Pedro Neto’s pin point cross was headed home by Sasa Kalajdzic for his first goal in England.

Everton were unable to find a leveller and were dealt their third defeat in as many games, putting Sean Dyche’s future in further doubt.

Will Everton Face Relegation Battle Once Again?

The Toffee’s have never been relegated from England’s top-flight, however, the Toffee’s have been in and amongst the relegation places for the last two campaigns.

Leading striker, Dominic Calvert-Lewin has endured a torrid time with injuries and his absence has been clear with Everton failing to score a goal in the opening three fixtures.

On the other hand, Wolves will be ecstatic with securing their first victory of the season and manager Gary O’Neil can take a sigh of relief after joining less than a month ago.

Everton travel to fellow relegation contenders, Sheffield United, next week in hopes of finding their first points of the season and Wolves face Crystal Palace on Sunday afternoon.
